The building of the Panama Canal saved Panama by helping it's Economy, it's people, and it's popularity. Before the Panama Canal was built, Panama was part of Columbia and it was basically a jungle country. The people wanted their freedom and once the Panama Canal was being talked about, the U.S. helped with the revolution by placing their Navy on the coast of Columbia during the revolution.
