Chapter 1 1. the Hotel Kazuko and her family live in the old Carrollton Hotel. She has lived all her life there, and it is her father’s business. I think that it is a very interesting hotel, and it is probably not the same as another hotel. The family lives in part of the hotel, and the rest of the rooms are for guests. I think the children see the hotel as some sort of a giant playground, playing all around, running with the linen cart, and climbing the dirty laundry pile. Also, Kazuko’s father will not accept anyone into his hotel that has been drinking. I think this is different from any other hotel, because most people will accept drunks for their money. My question is: Why would he turn the away; when they could profit from the drunk people? 2. the Neighborhood The neighborhood around the Hotel is very diverse, and there are many things to see. I wonder if any of the people in them are dangerous in any way. Of course, the people in the bar are very drunk, but I wonder if any of the other people, perhaps the man in the second-hand clothing store are dangerous? I think that the Sone’s part of Skidrow is pretty acceptable, except for the bar, and I think that the children could roam around, but wouldn’t they maybe be kidnapped? I am somewhat concerned about that, but I guess that their parents deemed the area to be safe, so the children could run around in it.
