On July 4, 1788, the US Constitution was finalized. In 1789, the first Congress was held under the new Constitution. The ratification of this aristocratic document was not an easy process. Many small states argued against the Constitution was more beneficial to larger states and provided a concern to many Americans. Others believed that the Constitution gave the government too much power.
There are four main bases of power within the United States. They include the Senate, House of Representatives, President, and Supreme Court. Each of these bases of power is strongly tied to the state legislatures, which eventually grants most power to a certain group of people. This small group of rich, white, male landowners makes up about ten percent of the nation's population.
