The Jazz Age
In the 1920's jazz was an up and coming style of music that blended the blues, ragtime, and other popular music genres. It first was created by African Americans to be the music for the minority. This new art form went through many periods of change and was influenced by great musicians. It spread quickly from Orleans to Chicago and Harlem all within a decade. Jazz caused social and racial boundaries to disappear. This was not just music but a movement that would change American life forever.
Jazz has no real definition. It is a genre of music that places emphasis on improvisation and always has a little blues to it. Every musician had his or her own personal tone. The way they would improvise their vocals to the music being played behind them was based on the individual singer...
