"What is the definition of Love? How does one know when they truly are in Love?" These are two of the many questions about life that will never have one exact answer. Throughout time, people have had a mosaic of different feelings and beliefs about what the true meaning of love really is. None of them being precisely right nor wrong, but unique in their individual way. Two novels that challenge and explore possible answers to these timeless questions are Ernest Hemmingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls and Charles Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities. In both novels, the characters struggle with the importance of their own life's existence in contrast to the depth of their love for another human being. The quest for love and it's meaning sets the stage for the unraveling of the entire plot and story line.
