... All of this is due to the invention of false teeth. Without a desire to be attractive, technology in dentistry and the need for survival, there would be no false teeth; there would be no advances in ivory and wood, less of an ability to look better and advances in fake teeth. Once the use of ivory became popular, people began to realize that this ivory could be used to make teeth to make people look and feel better. Although most people don’t seem to think of false teeth having a major impact on our society, it really is. With the use of false teeth people finally had something to help them deal with concerning missing teeth, cavities, or eating disabilities. With the use of false teeth they had an answer to fixing all of these problems, and many more. Dentures helped people who had missing teeth by making it easier to grind up food to swallow, and for them not to be ashamed to see friends and family because of missing teeth. Famous people like George Washington and Queen Elizabeth I both suffered from loss of teeth. George Washington (1732-1799) wore dentures where as Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603) didn’t have false teeth but instead filled the wholes in her mouth with cloth to hide the gaps in her mouth to have a better appearance (Schmittroth, 1995, p.
