I will begin with a poem called "Claudy" which was written in the 1970's. It is a local poem written for Harry Barton. It is a poem about terrorism not a traditional war poem like the second poem I will write about.
The first Stanza in "Claudy" begins peacefully. It makes the town seem at ease. It gives the reader a desire to be there and relax. It says
"small town of Claudy at ease in the sun
last July in the morning, a new day begun."
The writer is telling this poem from memory. Perhaps he was there or even affected in some way by what happened in Claudy that morning.
It goes on to say how peaceful and pretty the town is...
