Trying to staff the warehouse during those pleasant summer months!
Summer: A time normally filled with carefree days relaxing in the sun, taking vacations or, if you're Arthur Reed, a time spent worrying about how to staff the warehouse for Blue Grocery Stores. Each year during the warm summer months, Arthur who is the department manager, has the arduous task of keeping the warehouse running. This is not an easy chore due to the amount of vacations being taken and the number of people calling out sick. In the past, temporary personnel were used: however, this option proved futile as a minimum set of hours could not be guaranteed, they would have to buy their own expensive steel-toed boots and the pay rate was only $6 dollars an hour. There are a few ideas Arthur may wish to entertain in order to effectively staff his department for the summer months; although, the final solution may be as close as the local college.
As a manager, Arthur's responsibility is to make sure he has the people needed to complete the job. Having been in the industry for twenty years, he has probably considered many strategies that include implementing limits on how many people can take off during a given day. Putting a maximum limit of three staff off per day may ease this problem...
