Abstract
This paper's focus is on the topic of elder abuse in the residential facility. The forms of elder abuse are reviewed, along with a profile of the most likely abuser. Causes and predictors are examined. An overview is given about current programs that are in place to manage quality of care in residential facilities. Recommendations are presented for facility, nursing and family interventions to reduce the risk of elder abuse in residential facilities.
Introduction
The field of elder abuse prevention has historically focused on abuse in the domestic setting. However, with the aging of America, interest in elder abuse prevention has shifted to the residential facility.
