Analysis of John Keats
"Ode on Melancholy"
During the 18th century, a new movement of writing emerged from the plain, dry form of classicism called romanticism. In an act of uprising, romanticism used emotions, nature, and imagination to help convey the richest of this new style of writing. One of the greatest voices of this time period was John Keats. Born on October 31, 1795, John Keats lived a short life of only twenty-five years. John Keats early years consisted of practicing medicine and becoming qualified to become an apothecary. However, in 1816 Keats abandoned medicine and decided to pursue his true life's passion of becoming a poet. In these last five years, John Keats wrote some of the more powerful poems and letters of that time. Several of his more famous works were his Ode's, where ode means a celebration or praise. One of these poems was called "Ode on Melancholy". This poem demonstrates that we should not succumb to the suffering of melancholy, but rather embrace it and live through it...
