Have you ever felt that the best way to solve your problems is to run away and leave them all behind?(1) There is no doubt that the overwhelming urge to run away has at least once crossed the mind of every teenage boy. The desire to escape had been too much for the characters Huck Finn and John Grady Cole to endure, so they made up their minds and set off in search of new lives. The adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, is the story of a young boys' search for a better life as he journeys down the Mississippi River. The plot of this story is similar to the one in All The Pretty Horses, by Cormac McCarthy, where a group of teenagers try to begin new trouble free lives in Mexico. Huck's adventure was fairly trouble free, and had a happy ending, in contrast to Cole's adventure, in which he endured many hardships and ended up a very costly lesson in life. By analyzing the lives of the boys within these two books, it is evident that troubled boys run to escape their problems, sometimes with serious consequences.
First of all, Problems can be handled in a variety of ways. Some solutions may evolve if you work hard, or you may have to learn to live with your problems. Suicide is an easy option for solving problems, but the easiest way is to run away from them...
