Starting in the back of an inventors radio shop in the early 1940 to one of the worlds leading guitar manufacturers, Fender has changed the sound of music forever. From the first solid-body electric guitar, to the first precision bass along with the first amplifiers designed specifically for guitars Fender has been changing music for over 60 years.
It started out when inventor Leo Fender began making custom guitars and amplifiers with build in tone controls, but his main dream was to improve the hollow body electric guitars into better sounding guitars, and with his knowledge of technology he made it happen. The one main obstacle the he had to overcome was that when hollow body guitar were played at a high volume level they generated feedback so they had to be turned down low to get a clean sound. How did he overcome this: He designed the first solid-body electric guitar prototype called the Broadcaster, later to be renamed the Telecaster in 1951.In was also was the first solid-body
Spanish-style electric guitar to go into commercial production. Then the stratocaster guitar was produced in 1954, which helped create a new era of blues and rock guitar closer to the sound we know today.
Another first for fender was the precision bass. The precision bass was the first electric bass to feature frets to eliminate the need to approximate where to place your fingers to achieve a note. It was also a lot smaller than the basses at that time...
