Fools Crow, a Story of Success
In the story Fools Crow, James Welch depicts a young Native American man who in the beginning of the story is looked down upon by his peers and the elders of his tribe. As the story progressed Fools Crow/White-Mans-Dog kept to the faith and beliefs of his people and eventually made his way up the social totem pole of his tribe, the Lone Eaters. ... To progress up through the social society of his people, Fools Crow displayed many great attributes that his character possessed and used them to show his true colors as a person. Many people possess valuable traits that make them successful, and three of Fools Crows most valuable traits which he demonstrated throughout this story were dependability, bravery, and his compassion. Fools Crow showed his dependability when he said that he would do something you could count on him and he would do it or get it done no matter what. Fools Crow showed his bravery when he risked his life on many heart wrenching journeys that he didn’t know whether he was going to come back from, but he did it for his family because he knew it was the right thing to do for his tribe. ... These three traits were just three of the many that flourished through the character of Fools Crow/ White Mans Dog in the novel Fools Crow and stood out to me about this character.
