Hiroshima mon amour, Le Boucher and Last Year in Marienbad are films that
bring us images parelled with a story. The stories are complemented by the director's gift
of bringing the stories to life on screen. The directors each affect us differently with
lighting, music and acting purposefully put together to illustrate their vision.
Hiroshima mon amour is a love story that combines past and present into a
continual experience shared by two lovers. The French film actress meets a Japanese
architect and immediately shares a bond with him. There are few moments in life when
two people are fortunate enough to come together and feel so enamored by one another.
These moments in time seem to stand still and everything else falls away. The situation is
intensified by the fact that the two are married and they must soon say goodbye.
Alain Resnais does an excellent job of showing us this tension that few have
experienced. He shows the intensity felt, as well as the eroticism between the actress and
the architect...
