The sexual abuse of children is a quiet, yet growing issue that causes life-long effects on its victims. It is proven that sexual abuse often affects the victim for a long time. "A child's sex is a core part of their body. When they are sexually abused, they are wounded to the core of their being" (Kritsberg 3). Sexual abuse takes place when an adult uses a child for sexual arousal, gratification, or degradation. Most times, the child is not yet mature enough to understand what is going on (Hyde and Forsyth 9).
There are many types of sexual child abuse, which makes it more difficult to identify it. At its highest, sexual abuse includes intercourse of the vaginal area. It can also include 'deviate sexual intercourse', or sodomy (Besharov 86). Other acts include intentional fondling of the genitals, and genital exposure to a child (Besharov 87)...
