Abraham Lincoln, from the backwoods of Hodgenville Kentucky, rose to become one of the greatest presidents of the United States. During his attempt to keep the Union in the Civil War, he gained more power and authority then any president before him. An excellent politician, Lincoln was always looked upon for leadership, for he put reason and thoughtful decisions behind his word.
Abraham Lincoln had a significant leadership style. His relationships with people were important to him. Lincoln always wanted first hand knowledge of what was going on with the people working in his administration and military. He would often get out of his office to circulate among the troops, listening to them, sharing, and nurturing the wounded. Because he saw the importance of human contact and informal relationships with his subordinates, Lincoln spent much of his time getting to know his troops.
