When thinking about the word "mythology," the first thing that comes to a person's mind is most likely the subject of the ancient Romans or Greeks. There are several other, lesser-known mythologies, however, including the Norse, or Viking, mythology. In this collection of myths, the creation of the world, man, and several different giants and gods are all very interesting to learn about, and are very different from other types of mythology.
In the beginning, there was a wide void, called Ginnungagap, which was a limitless region that extended on forever in every direction. Although the land was shapeless and vast, it was still not empty, which was only known by the gods. First of all, there was the region of fire, called Muspellheim (webhome.idirect.com). This region was guarded by Surt, a fierce giant who stood watch on the borders with his flaming sword of fire. The second of the great regions in the abyss of Ginnungagap was an area of ice and snow called Niflheim, which like Muspellheim, had existed for many ages before the creation of the earth...
