Describe how your local church nurtures the newly baptised (children or adults or both).
Can you suggest how it might do this better?
Jesus is the light of the world and to follow him is to come out of the darkness and into the light and become part of the body of Christ.
Introduction
As part of the Church of Christ we all have a responsibility to nurture the newly baptised whether they are adults or children . When considering the framework of this nurture it is important to know where each have come from in their understanding of Christianity and their reasons for wanting to be baptised. It is irresponsible to assume that all who come for baptism actually want to commit their lives to Christ. In the case of adult believers then this assumption is generally true but this is not the case for infant/child baptism. Parents have many reasons for wanting their child baptised but not all parents are themselves baptised Christians. If they are they may have chosen to turn from God but still want their child to be baptised according to Christian tradition. It may be because someone else in the family is a Christian and possibly willing to take on the nurturing responsibility or a traditionalist who believes that it is the proper thing to do...
