Our country has been fighting the drug war for decades, but it is a loosing battle. We need to realize the drug war will not be won with the methods we have tried. America has been spending hundreds of billions of dollars that could be used towards a more effective and permanent solution, and we are losing more lives than we should be. More and more people are imprisoned for drugs, which creates a massive prison population. This situation only leads to bad things. The only way to win the war on drugs is to legalize them.
To win the war the US has to take a new approach. We need to put more emphasis on education. If drugs are legalized, much of the money the country saves on law enforcement could be put into more education of our youth and citizens on the harmful effects of drug use.
If we look through the history of our country we can find situations very similar to the one we're facing today...
