English/History Can true love change a person? The story, “A Retrieved Reformation,” can tell you the answer to that question. This epic tale of a man changing himself for a woman is wonderfully written by O. Henry and admired by many. Jimmy Valentine is a cracksman, someone who breaks into vaults and steals the contents. Valentine lives in the little town of Elmore, Arkansas in the early 1800’s. He knows that his true love, Annabel, wouldn’t love him if she knew that he was a cracksman. So when Valentine gets out of jail, he decides to change his name and appearance to Ralph D. Spencer. One day, Anabel’s neice Agatha was playing around by a vault and got herself locked inside.
