Do students involved in extracurricular activities achieve greater marks than those not involved in activities? Some people believe the complete opposite, that students involved in extracurricular activities will achieve lower marks in school due to the fact that they spend more time doing their activities than actually studying. I believe the first. I believe that extracurricular activities actually improve the overall student. They teach students character building skills, skills that will be with them all throughout life, social skills and extracurricular activities can even save some students who would probably drop out of school. After questioning two hundred and ninety-two college students Mary Rombokas concluded that "participation in extracurricular activities enhances both the intellectual and social development of students."
A lot of things add to why students benefit from extracurricular activities academically. One of these things is that by taking part students learn character-building skills that they can apply not only to their study habits but also to their lives. Activities teach students how to discipline themselves through drills, practices and rehearsals. Extracurricular activites give students pride in their accomplishments, and through this they learn that if an activity is worth doing it is worth doing well...
