A Christmas Carol is very helpful in exposing young people to good writing. The story is short and is fast-moving which hold the students' attention. It is rich in historical background and holds a wealth of illustrative examples of good writing and characterization. The novel provides a wonderful opportunity for students to explore the Victorian Period via some great internet sites.

In the end, Scrooge learns from what he has seen and truly starts to live to help others. The tale concludes with a redeemed Scrooge who has seen the light and a Scrooge who decides to make a positive difference for many, starting with Bob Cratchit and his nephew Fred.
With A Christmas Carol, Dickens hopes to illustrate how self-serving, insensitive people can be converted into charitable, caring, and socially conscious members of society through the intercession of moralizing quasi-religious lessons. Warmth, generosity, and overall goodwill, overcome Scrooge's bitter apathy as he encounters and learns from his memory, the ability to empathize, and his fear of death.
