Major character: A normal boy, with dark-colored hair and eyes describes Robert Peck - a Shaker boy who is on his way to manhood. The age of manhood is thirteen, and Rob being twelve, makes him almost a man. This being so, Robert is faced with life's challenges. He is a good boy, taught by his family about morals and following his father in doing the right thing. Much is expected of Rob, he being the only male in his household after his father.
