The Best Can
A local soft drink distributor is considering redesigning their 12 FL OZ can. In order to reduce production cost to a minimum, the company wants to produce a can that will require the least amount of aluminum possible by finding the radius of a can in centimeters, which will minimize the surface area.
In order to determine the dimensions of the 12 FL OZ can, I first converted the measurement of the can from fluid ounces (FL OZ) to centimeters cubed (cm3). I used the ratios between fluid ounces and milliliters and milliliters and centimeters cubed to find the volume of the can. There are 29.575 milliliters in one fluid ounce, and in every milliliter, there is one centimeter cubed. The volume of a 12 fluid ounce can in centimeters cubed is 354.9 cm3.
??
My next step was to develop a function to determine the surface area of the can in terms of the can's radius (r)..
