The Catholic Church was the only church in Europe during the Middle Ages, and it had it’s own laws. Church leaders such as Bishops and Archbishops were on the king’s council and held leading roles in the government. As the population grew larger the churches that had been built were growing to small, so the builders tried to make the cathedrals bigger and better than ever before. Monte Saint Michel- Built by Benedictine monks from the 11th to the 16th century in Normandy France. It appears to tower out of the bay at high tide. At low tide people can walk across the bay.
