The focus of this essay is to see whether the near imminent
military action of the Western world, against Iraq, is a justified
cause?
Through the basis of comparison between the views of
western world countries and the actions of the Iraqi president,
Saddam Hussein, I will aim to draw a conclusion this
argument.
Saddam Hussein became president of Iraq in 1979. ...
When he took over the Middle Eastern country, Iraq was
powerful and respected, housing some of the worlds largest oil
reserves. Why then, nearly two decades later, is Iraq isolated
internationally and shackled by sanctions?
Over the course of Saddam’s 23 year rule as president of Iraq,
for nearly half of this time, he has been at war with his
western foes. This became particularly apparent in 1991, the
year of the Gulf War, which saw Hussein, and his forces driven
from Kuwait. ... sanctions slapped on Iraq. This has created a cat-and-
mouse game between Washington and Baghdad, centred on
arms inspectors trying to ensure the destruction of Iraq’s
alleged chemical and biological weapons.
