Reflective Report
Before the presentation I felt that we had done ample research on our given topic and that the Power Point and information we had gathered was more than satisfactory. In relation to the preparation, research, visual aids, rehearsing and knowing the material I felt confident that the presentation would go well.
However after hearing the feedback given to the groups before us I became increasingly concerned that I would rely too heavily on my script and the notes I would be using. This made me even more nervous about speaking in front of everyone and I felt less confident and less prepared.
Once we began the presentation I decided not to rely on my script and adlibbed only using the Power Point as a reference. This gave me more of an opportunity to strike up eye contact with the audience. I made a conscious effort to try and include everyone rather than focusing on a specific point or person. A disadvantage of not reading from the script was that my speech speed up and I began to rush my words because I wanted to get what I was saying over and done with as opposed to taking time over the set sentences I had prepared.
We had divided the presentation into smaller alternating speaking sections to make it less monotonous for the audience. This technique also provided us with more time to breathe and compose ourselves rather than having to speak continuously for a long period of time...
