German foods have been influenced by many different aspects. First, Germany's fertile terrain and climate create an ideal atmosphere for beef and dairy cattle, pigs and sheep. Foods such as potatoes, cabbage, onions, apples, plums and cherries are also often grown in Germany.
Types of German foods are separated geographically. Northern Germany's cuisine reflects its neighboring sea and Scandinavia. Central Germany has heavier and richer foods, and Southern Germany's foods are lighter like its neighbors of Austria and Italy.
German mealtimes differ from the meals that Americans are used to. Germans have a Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, which they call Supper, but along with that they have two other meals, a second breakfast and late afternoon meal.
