Since the start of the American government and America's quick rise to power there has been many affairs that have put the United States under some pressure. Some affairs include World War I, World War II, and one of the most import affairs the United States was involved in, the Cold War.
The Cold War began shortly after the end of World War II. Start of the cold war begin in 1945 with a fear within the public that the Great Depression would return to America. Even though the government cut their spending habits after the war, consumer spending surprisingly increased. However, there wasn't too many worries of the Cold War until the 1950's. As the Soviet Union fell the fear of communism in America fueled a widespread campaign of domestic repression. American's often called this phenomenon "McCarthyism", which was named after the senator of Wisconsin. McCarthy was one political figure during the Cold War who seems to push Communism more than others. There was much tension amongst politics during the fifties including, Nixon, McCarthy, Truman and Alger Hiss who is a former Communist and assistant to Franklin Roosevelt...
