Both Han China and Rome were ancient empires that maintained unity and power through their peoples' strong beliefs and work ethics. The two empires were technologically advanced for their times and both focused on forceful expansion of their territories. The basic structures of the two were also similar in their economic strategies, but the stronger religious and social bonds of the Chinese people allowed for a more unified nation that would eventually outlast the Roman empire.
Han China and Rome both relied on it's people for taxes, labor, and military service. In China, the main crops were wheat and rice, seasonal foods, while Rome's steady climate allowed for a variety of crops to grow. China built canals to connect its rivers and the Mediterranean sea within the Roman empire allowed for easy transport of these goods. The people worked hard for a living in the empires and were burdened with heavy agricultural taxes that funded large armies who expanded the two empires' growing borders.
Religion and social structure in Han China were closely related. Confucian beliefs were practiced and the father was always the head of the household, while elders and deceased ancestors deserved the family's utmost respect. The people also respected the emperor as long as he was true to the Mandate of Heaven and maintained peace between heaven and earth...
