The authoritarian parenting style has been selected; authoritarian parents are highly demanding and directive, but not responsive. They are obedience and status-oriented, and expect their orders to be followed without question or explanation. These parents provide well-ordered and structured environments with clearly stated rules, setting strict standards for their children’s behavior and apply punishment for violations of the rules. “The Smith Family” In the suburbs of Clearwater lived the smith a typical American family of European decent, consisting of: John, the head of the household, Jane, his wife, and little Joe, their only son. Joe was now in his third year of the International Baccalaureate program. At first glance, one would think that the family was ideal, based on their son that is; little Joe had maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout his academic life, currently played soccer and basketball, and played piano and the violin. John and Jane held managerial positions at major industries, having a highly profitable income. This perfect household, however, on the inside was not that perfect at all. Ever since Joe had been a toddler, his mother and father had strict rules in line for him. They would punish him for not understanding what they called simple mathematical operations of algebra when he was the age of 10. They enlisted him in sports which he did not wish to participate, forcing him to play soccer for six years of his life and football from the age of 11 to this current they.
