The Bible has appeared in many translated forms over the millennia. Around the second century B.C. Jews in Alexandria created the Greek Septuagint from the Hebrew texts. The Evangelists translated the Gospel from spoken Aramaic to written Greek. Various books of the Bible found new readers through the tongues of their native lands. There were Latin Bibles before St. Jerome, German Bibles before Luther, and English Bibles before King James. This page gives you a taste of biblical literature in various phases of the Old English language.
