ESSAY FOR PHL 205: ETHICS
The subject of ethics has been around since the beginning of time. The study of ethics has been a topic of discussion for many famous philosophers like Socrates, Aristotle, and Kant. I deal with ethical decisions on a daily basis with patient care, whether I am dealing with informed consent, advance directives, domestic violence, or cultural differences.
Ethics can be defined as principals that determine which humane actions are right or that determine which human action are right or wrong (Smith & Maurer, 2000). Ethics are individualized to each person. This based on how a person feels about the subject. The person makes that decision based on their values, religion, cultures, and experiences. (Objectives #1) Be exposed to the basic methodology and content of ethics, including ethical theories throughout history and contemporary issues in ethics. (Objective # 5) Learn to appreciate philosophy both as a body of knowledge and as an activity.
