Stopping the Tide: The Battle of Midway

The battle of Midway was the decisive battle in the Pacific Theatre during World War Two. The Japanese Heavy Carrier fleet was destroyed, in turn putting Japan on the run and on the defensive. Intelligence played a major role in the outcome of this so important battle. The vast amount of intelligence Americans had, and the very little amount of intelligence the Japanese had would prove to be the most important factor in what would decide the outcome of the battle.
Forewarned by Pacific Fleet codebreaking, Midway's patrol planes searched out hundreds of miles along probable Japanese approach routes. These patrol planes are called PBY Catalinas. In the afternoon of June 3 a PBY spotted the Japenese transport group, heading east about 700 miles west of Midway...
