Female Genital Mutilation is a custom practiced in Third World countries in Africa and in the Middle East. The procedure is so barbaric and uncivilized that religious and multicultural tolerance can only go so far. People of Third World countries have chosen to follow strict religious beliefs and are unwilling to accept, much less exercise western lifestyle. Women are treated as though they are property rather than people, and practices such as Genital Mutilation have been enforced upon them. To Muslims, Female Genital Mutilation is necessary for a proper marriage, for the virtue of the woman, and for the honor of her family. Women have been abused and disregarded as individuals for many generations, through mental and physical abuse, being ignored, and by raping them of their personal rights and privileges. They are forced to cover themselves with clothing from head to toe, in order to hide their bodies, as it is believed that they are sinful. Living in a male dominating culture, husband and father figures control woman, who need permission to simply step out of the house. Western intervention has not proven to be as influential to the treatment of women as hoped, and help is only accepted by those who are willing. Female Genital Mutilation is an issue that people are viciously opposed, and in order to bring this practice to a halt, education of those who practice it is needed...
