During the years 1400-1600's in Europe an odd phenomena was occurring, the burning of witches. Three main problems then arose; certain types of people were targeted for reasons which made them only more vulnerable. A feeling of paranoia to everyone around you and because of this many ridiculous and baseless accusations had merit. Finally, religion played a key role in everything because of internal problems, the church used "witchcraft" as a scapegoat. The trials also took place during a time of great controversy in Europe. Many things were happening during this time period from the Reformations to the scientific revolution. This embracing of a false truth brought about the death of what some estimates put up to 100,000 people or more.
Members of one community in Germany accused a midwife in their community of witchcraft. They thought because she was different they should look into her. Once they inspected the peculiars of the midwife they discovered that she "had given him (a child) a hobby horse so that he might ride on it till he lost his senses...
