Death Of A Marriage

Pro basketball came to Charlotte in early November 1988. The Hornets first coach Dick Harter, had never been a head coach. Our players were rejects from the expansion draft. We had a brand new 23,388-seat coliseum to call our own. Our fan base was new to the pro sports scene, and we didn't know how pro fans were supposed to act. The Hornets lost their first game by 40 points to a standing ovation. They won their third game, and ended the season winning 20 out of 82 games.
The eleventh game of that season sent shock waves through the NBA. All the brass and owners around the league called each other to see if the other was watching those new guys on TV. The Charlotte Coliseum was at a sold out frenzy...
