The future has the possibility of having many different scenarios to shape history. In the book Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradburry explores one of these possible scenarios by portraying Guy Montag as a fireman. However, Montag does not extinguish fires, he ignites them. In Bradburrys novel, books themselves are illegal and it is Montag’s job to burn any books he finds. This becomes a problem when Guy realizes the information is in these books, and he starts to rebel. Three people that influence Guy Montag to rebel are Clarisse, Beatty and Mildred. Montag faces many problems and he solves them in different fashions. One person who plays a large part in driving Montag out of his society is the Fire Chief and Guy’s boss Beatty.
