Due to being a small company, Gentle Helpers, has decided to use a functional departmentalization plan. According to Dessler, "functional departmentalization means grouping activities around basic functions like manufacturing, sales, and finance". With this type of structure it allows us to organize ourselves around managerial functions by putting our supervisors in charge of planning, controlling, and administration. Dessler states that, "the basic idea of any functional departmentalization is to group activities around the core functions that enterprise must carry out".
Using the functional departmentalization has many advantages for Gentle Helpers. It will be easy to use. It is very straightforward and to the point. It also makes the most sense for a small company. It will make sense to build around the basic functions that will be used. Their will be no duplication of departments as seen in the other plans...
