People go through life with a certain attitudes and certain beliefs. Resulting from these people sometimes lose and some benefit. In the play Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, Cyrano the play's protagonist, benefits but with those benefits comes certain obstacles. For example; he gets Roxanne but she comes with Christian, he has true friends but enemies as well and last, he has pride but it comes with poverty. From this evidence I have come up with the argument that Cyrano is extremely independent and insists on tending to his own garden but; because of this independence he reaps roses with thorns.
An example of Cyrano reaping roses but with thorns would be Roxanne as the rose and Christian as the thorns. When Cyrano is talking to Christian about using him for words and Christian for his beauty Cyrano says; "Shall we collaborate? I'll be your cloak of darkness your enchanted sword, your ring to charm the fairy princess." (86) In this quote it is showing how Cyrano will be able to express his love to Roxanne but, only through Christian's pretty face. Cyrano is content in knowing that Roxanne is in love with his words even though Christian is reaping the benefits...
