Introduction
This coursework is going to investigate the following:
Who the human resource department are and what the contribute towards the business
What aims and objectives are and how they help the business to succeed
What functional areas of a business are and how they work
The importance of effective communication
Marketing
The marketing department work in customer satisfaction. They research into products and the potential customers:
The product must be what customers want
The product must be a reasonable price, enough for the business to make profit but at a price the customer is willing to pay
In the right shops where the customer would expect the product to be found
The marketing department deal with the improvement aspect of the business. They discover what sort of product the customers want and what they would be willing to pay for it. They accomplish this by:
Questionnaires
Interviews
Carefully assessing the behaviour of the customers
Promotions
All businesses promote their product or service. The business may do this by:
Sponsoring a football team for example, or music events etc
Advertising the product, billboards, newspapers, radio advertisements etc.
Competitions through magazines, or even television and radio.
Human Resources
The human resources department specialises in the welfare of the businesses employees:
Salaries of the employees
Safety of the employees
Recruitment and dismissal
Training and promotion
Working conditions
Businesses couldn't operate effectively without a good human resource department.
Employing Staff
Here are a few points the human resource department have to do while recruiting new staff:
Notifying possible future employees of the job vacancy and what department he or she would be working within.
A full description of the job
Identifying the qualifications and skills the employee will need
Sending job application forms
Assessing the returned application forms and making decisions about who should return for an interview
Interviewing the possible candidates for the job
Deciding who is best for the job
Offer the job to the selected employee
Issuing a legal contract
The human resources department must make sure the employees are being paid the agreed wage, are giving the correct equipment for the job and ensuring safety.
Dismissal of staff
If an employer feels the employee is not working at the standards he or she should be, the human resource department must give 2 warnings, one verbal, one written, but after these 2 warnings, if the employer still feels the need to dismiss the member of staff, the human resource department need to either suspend or dismiss the employee...
