NAFTA grew from the Canadian-American trade Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in 1989. In 1994, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was created ~ to include Mexico. NAFTA included a plan to gradually eliminate almost all trade tariffs, but many still remain. The North America Free Trade Agreement has always been a controversial issue. About every 10 articles I read only 1 had anything positive to say about NAFTA. Farming, automobile industries, clothing, lumber, and environmental (hazardous waste.) were the issues of most concern.
