MINIMOOG
The Minimoog was first produced in 1970 by Moog Music. Moog Music mainly produced modular synths that were made to order and sold as pieces of professional audio equipment. The idea behind the minimoog was to produce a compact synth that was manufactured for and priced specifically for musicians. Approximately 13,000 minimoogs were sold during a production period of 12 years between 1970 1982.
When moog music produced the minimoog they were unsure of what it should look like. Engineers came up with several high-tech designs which included computer-type styling and multi-coloured panels but finally musicians were asked and the final design consisted of a natural wood cabinet as opposed to a plastic one, and the whole design was simplified.
There were several different models of the minimoog produced, models A D. The original minimoog prototype was the model A which was made from standard Moog modules and used pitch and modulation sliders instead of wheels. The model B was non-modular so was made from a single panel, only one of this model was actually produced. The model C introduced the hinged back panel and also switches for glide and decay...
