The MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree is considered the worlds best known and most widely recognized postgraduate degree, seen by many as a stepping stone to a more lucrative and challenging career path. The MBA first emerged in 1908 and expanded quickly when new management techniques were introduced, following the Second World War. Currently, there are approximately 725 schools offering MBA programs worldwide, with more than 400 of them in the United States. For many people, the value of obtaining an MBA comes from the notion that it will add value to their life through career advancement, increased income potential, greater financial gain, improved intellect and immediate recognition. However, as the economy continues to face tough economic times and unemployment rates begin to rise, the value connected to an MBA has been debated, especially when more and more graduates are having difficulty finding jobs in their area of study.
