Anita and Me
In this essay I shall start off by telling you briefly what the story is about. Then I will move on to discussing the points raised in the film and in class. Finally I will then finish it off by bringing all my points together in a conclusion.
The story "Anita and Me" is basically how a young Punjabi twelve-year-old girl grows up in different surroundings to that of most other Punjabi girls. Meena along with her family, live in a small village called Tollington. Here Meena faces all the problems and challenges of growing up. Meena's direct family originate from India and they stand out in the village, as they are the only coloured people in the village, this makes people unsure of what they are like because they are such a minority. Meena's parents priority is for her to do well at school, they make her do all her homework and schoolwork to the best of her ability. Her parents say "education is our ticket out of here." Meanwhile Meena would rather be doing that normal girls her age would be doing like hanging out with her mates and eating fish and chips...
