The American Dream is defined as living life to the fullest, discovery, and the pursuit of happiness. In this land of opportunities there are many choices that can lead to all those and more. However, there are other people trying to live the American Dream, and they are willing to kill another person's American Dream to achieve their own. In F Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby experiences the fall of his American Dream. The characters in the novel were corrupted by money and greed that led to a catastrophic ending. Gatsby does not live the American Dream, because he was being used for his money, power, and status.
Throughout the whole book, Gatsby seemed to be playing a character that wasn't himself. He always referred to people as "old sport," and gave them whatever they wanted. He was the center of attention, but he was never recognized easily at his parties. He wanted everyone to have a good time and tried to be a decent person...
