William Shakespeare's King Lear is about a British king who no longer wishes to be king. To remedy this, he plans on dividing his land among his three daughters. First, however, he puts them through a test, asking each to tall him how much she loves him. His first two daughters, Goneril and Regen give their father flattering answers. Lear's third and favorite daughter, Cordelia, remains silent, saying that she has no words to describe how much she loves her father. King Lear flies into a rage and disowns Cordelia. It is the belief of this reader that King Lear is a tragic play. There are three types of characters who are pivotal in the creation of a tragedy. The first would be the protagonist that meets an untimely death at the end of the play (King Lear). The Second is the female character who does no wrong during the play but becomes a victim of circumstance (Cordelia)...
