The Call of the Wild Summary

The Call of the Wild is about a dog named Buck who is being called back to the ways of his ancestors even though he is now civilized. The novel starts out with Buck living at the home of Judge Miller in Santa Clara, California. He is the keeper of the place. Manuel sells Buck to a saloonkeeper. Manuel is a gardener’s helper and he is addicted to gambling. So, he sells Buck for a good amount of money and he is able to do it because of the Gold Rush in the Yukon and there is a demand for dogs that are able to pull sleds. This is only one of the many times he will have to change masters. The saloonkeeper keeps Buck in a cage until they get to the man in the red sweater. The man in the red sweater plays an important part in the life of Buck because he teaches Buck primitive law. The man in the red sweater beats Buck until he starts to submit to the authority of the man.
