The movie "Ten Things I Hate about You" was made as a modernized version of the play "The Taming of the Shrew". This play was written by Shakespeare in the 16th century while the movie was made in 1999. Naturally, the movie followed the basic plot of the play but was not an exact replica; many things were altered including setting and characters. In some places, the movie changed names and other details to give the viewer references to Shakespeare.
There is quite a large time difference from when the play was written to the time period in which the movie takes place. This caused many differences in the setting. In "Ten Things I Hate about You," the location is a high school in the United States by the name of Padua High. Most gatherings were at parties on the weekend. While, in Shakespeare's play the setting is in the town of Padua, Italy. Everyone united in the scene of the wedding and at the end of the play...
