A farewell to Arms Throughout “A Farewell to Arms”, I really liked how Hemingway uses nature to structure the novel and provide symbols to replace human emotions. I think the most remarkable symbol in this novel is the rain, you can tell that rain is an indication of destruction and death. Hemingway uses the rain analogy on pg 125 “That’s good. Because I’m afraid of the rain.” Continued on pg 126 line 18, Catherine says “I’m afraid of the rain because sometimes I see me dead in it.”, and on line 18 “I’m not afraid of the rain.
